Our physical therapists frequently design individual programs for physical conditioning. Often, as a result of injury or disease, our patients are left de-conditioned. The level of de-conditioning varies from person to person, but the result is that the patient is no longer able to participate in his or her usual activities. Loss of independence, loss of ability to work, loss of ability to participate in social activities and sports are just a few of the consequences of de-conditioning.

At times, aging in itself can be the underlying cause of progressive loss of physical condition. This results in loss of function and may challenge a person’s independence. It is crucial that this problem is addressed properly since the consequences of not doing so will have lasting impact on a patient’s quality of life.

Dynamic Physical Therapy’s therapists perform a thorough patient interview and physical examination prior to designing a physical conditioning program. This program will have clear goals and an individualized program to achieve those goals. All this is considered along a timeline which is dictated by the body’s ability to improve muscle strength, endurance, coordination and a variety of other factors. Since every individual is unique, each of Dynamic’s physical conditioning programs is unique. Though our programs are unique certain components are commonly used. For instance, education plays a central role. Patients should understand why and how they became de-conditioned and how to prevent this from occurring in the future. Patients should also understand the entire treatment approach. How much work will it be? How long will it take? Obviously exercise is important. We design exercise programs around a person’s current abilities and plan progress and improvement from there. So the treatment program is always changing and adapting, in a sense it is growing with your abilities until our goals are reached. The goals are set by the patient and therapist together and it is important to have open communication so that everyone understands what we want to achieve and how we will get there. At Dynamic Physical Therapy our physical therapists are experts at designing effective physical conditioning programs together with our patients. We will also communicate with your family and physician to make sure everyone is on the same page.
